I tell you what...I feel so lucky to FINALLY live in a city with a music scene. I mean I just love live music and I love it even more that musicians actually want to come here to play just for me :). Back in December, yeah yeah, I know that was a long time ago, I had the pleasure of seeing Tift Merritt, Brett Dennen, and Martin Sexton all at the same time out in Boulder!
Tift is actually from North Carolina and I had always heard of her, but had not heard any of her music. I loved her stage presence, especially her boots, her music, and her love for UNC basketball. She actually gave a shout out to the Heels, to which I whoooo hoooo'd in agreement, along with some other fans in the crowd.
Brett Dennen took the stage next, whose music I absolutely love, but he was sans band...which was a disappointment because I fell in love with his hottie of hottiness drummer at the Mile High music festival. And after looking at Brett, you will understand why I needed his hottie drummer there.
Well it is not like you can see his face here (but this is my fave pic), but take my word for it, he is not the prettiest flower in the field. But I swear he had a crush on yours truly that night. We were pretty much on the front row, and I felt him looking up at me every now and again. And I am sure yall are thinking yeah right Melanie, but seriously...you can ask my friend Nikki. She saw it too. I would have put his looks aside just to get back stage and conversate and stuff...like how he can hook me up with his boy Jason Mraz.
After Brett, it was Martin Sexton, and I have to be honest here and say that I was EXTREMELY disappointed with his performance. There were just too many amens and too many hallelujahs, which I know he loves to belt out, but it became REAL overbearing at times. And again, it was around the holidays, and so I am totally excusing him, but I just feel bad that someone as a first timer might have thought we should have been in church. I was only a second timer and left feeling he should have sang this or he should have done that...which I have left shows before thinking that, but more bummed out with Martin as a whole. But believe me...I will not give up on him...perhaps he was feeling the spirit that night and I certainly cannot blame him for that.
Speaking of disappointment, the next show we went to was Eric Hutchinson in February, again at the Bluebird...and how about he performed the EXACT same set, full of the exact same songs, exact same jokes, exact EVERYTHING...minus his wardrobe and the new bass player.

And granted I still enjoyed the show because I love his music, and how cute and geeky he is and of course for him introducing to me the awesomest thing EVER (i.e. Hunkfest)...but I'm like damn brother...you were just in Denver 3 months ago...spice it up...I have never in my whole life of going to shows heard the same exact set. I mean really.
So if you want to read about this show, I suggest you just go to this post to read all about it because I am sure as shit not typing it out again :). But like Martin, I know I will go see Eric again...especially since his drummer reached out to touch me with his towel...
